Anubhav Sinha is known for his hard-hitting cinema (Mulk, Article 15), but Bheed is a much different kind of film. He lays bare the insidious discrimination against migrant workers in India and the larger social structures that fuel it.
Caste Conflict: It’s a theme that Sinha takes up often in his social issue movies, and the results are very solid. But the director also stretches it to the breaking point at several points in Bheed.
The cast is strong, especially Rajkummar Rao, who carries the film on his shoulders with a very fine performance. Dia Mirza and Kritika Kamra are good too.
There is some interesting stuff in the screenplay too. But the characters are a bit scattered, and their dialogues sometimes feel like they’re being addressed more to the audience than the characters.
